Troubleshooting Your Heater Doesn’t Have to Be Scary

It’s nearly Halloween, but any spooky noises in your home shouldn’t be coming from your heating system. That can mean trouble. Before you know it, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hannukah will be upon us and you don’t want your heating equipment to decide it wants to take the holidays off. Your heating system will always make some kinds of sounds, such as expansion and contraction noises or the occasional crackling or popping noise. Get a Heating System Inspection 

If you haven’t called us to schedule your annual heating system inspection and maintenance, it’s never too late. We’ll clean and check your system to make sure it’s safe and reliable. If you have us handle the upkeep on your heating system, we can spot and head off potential problems and avoid the possibility that you won’t have heat on a cold day and will need heating repair. 

Your heating unit keeps your home warm by heating either air or water. If your furnace isn’t working, we’ll start by checking the gas supply and then making sure that both the ignition system and the burners are cleaning and working properly. We’ll check all of the safety devices on your furnace and we’ll perform a combustion analysis to ensure that your furnace isn’t giving off poisonous carbon monoxide gas. We’ll make sure that your vent system, whether it’s your chimney or plastic pipe through a side wall, is leak free. We’ll inspect the heat exchanger for cracks. We’ll look and listen for any strange sounds such as electrical components buzzing or the grinding noise of a bad bearing in the fan motor. 

Boiler Issues 

If you heat your home with a boiler, we’ll do all of the same safety checks that we do for a furnace, plus we’ll inspect the pipes and radiators that transport heat through your home. We’ll inspect and lubricate the circulator pump. We’ll look for water leaks and we’ll make sure that there isn’t any air clogging up the system in places where water should be. 

On the outside of your house, we’ll make sure that your chimney looks sound or that a power venter or intake and exhaust pipes through the side of your house are unobstructed and safe.
