BROOKLYN, N.Y. – November 16, 2021 – Petri Plumbing & Heating, Inc., a family-owned home service company serving Brooklyn and Manhattan for more than 100 years, wants Brooklyn residents to be aware of the recent deadline extension for Local Law 152 inspections. Building owners in community districts 2, 5, 7, 13, and 18 in all boroughs now have until June 30, 2022 to get their gas piping systems inspected, as required by local legislation.

By enforcing these inspections, it helps guarantee that the buildings in the community are up to code while also decreasing the chance of a gas line tragedy.”
Local Law 152 was passed in 2016 to ensure gas lines in New York City buildings were safe. At the beginning of 2020, local government began requiring regular inspection of gas pipe systems in all buildings within the city. Inspections must be performed by a New York licensed master plumber.
Under the law, all buildings are inspected for leaks, safe connections and any other potential problems that could cause hazardous conditions. Equipment such as pressure regulators, regulator vents, valves and sleeves are also to be inspected. Plumbers performing the inspection must conduct a leak survey in all the areas where visual inspection of exposed gas piping is required as well.
“I do want to remind people that there is a penalty up to $10,000 for those who are due for a local law inspection and fail to get one,” Petri said. “It is vital to get in touch with a master plumber to have your inspection scheduled to ensure your buildings are in proper shape and safe from gas leak consequences.”
