Get Ready to Spend More: Natural Gas Prices Expected to Rise This Winter
With natural gas prices expected to rise this coming winter, now is the time to make sure your heating system is in good working order. Petri Plumbing wants our Brooklyn neighbors to be able to stay warm without breaking the bank.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts that households that primarily use natural gas for heating will spend $116 more this winter in part due to expected lower temperatures:
Residential natural gas prices are forecast to average $10.37 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf), 11 percent higher than last winter. Prices at this level would be the highest since the winter of 2010-11. Consumption is forecast to be 10 percent higher than last winter. The increase in consumption is based on a return to temperatures that are closer to normal following last winter’s El Niño weather pattern that resulted in winter temperatures that were 15 percent warmer than the previous ten-year average nationally.
When higher natural gas prices are expected, homeowners will want to make sure their heating system is not wasting money. Now is a good time to make sure your gas system is operating safely and efficiently in order to keep your utility costs as low as possible this winter. It might also pay to consider whether it’s time to replace your aging boiler with an up-to-98 percent energy-efficient tankless boiler that will pay for itself in reduced energy bills within a few years.
Petri Plumbing offers services including water and gas pipe leak repair and installation, fixture installations, inspections, boiler repair, water heater installation, complete bathroom, kitchen, laundry and utility room remodeling and more.
